Srinagar, Sep 27 : Vegetable vendors at the Dal Lake were in for a surprise this morning when Rahul Gandhi visited them and enquired about their problems.
The Congress General Secretary, who is on a two-day visit to the Valley, interacted with the vendors who gather at the vegetable market on Dal Lake at the crack of dawn. During the interaction, some of the vegetable sellers recalled the visit of Rajiv Gandhi to the Lake in 1984. After exchanging pleasantries and hearing their problems, Rahul went to the house of Ghulam Rasool where he had ‘Kahwa' (green tea) and listened to the various issues concerning Dal residents.
Rasool is one of the leaders of Dal residents who have been protesting against the state government's compensation for relocating them.Gandhi had yesterday interacted with Kashmir University students and told them that he understands the “pain” of Kashmiris as he was a Kashmiri himself.
Addressing around 1,000 students at the University's convention centre, the 41-year-old said that he also understood the language of violence as his family had been a victim of violence. PTI
