Punjab Bypolls Results LIVE: Bhagwant Mann-led AAP leads in 2 seats, wins Chabbewal, Congress gets Barnala

AAP's Ishank Kumar won the Bye Election Chabbewal (Punjab) constituency with 51,904 votes. He defeated his nearest rival and Congress nominee Ranjit Kumar by a margin of 28,690 votes. Ranjit Kumar secured 23,214 votes and Sohan Singh Thandal received 8,692 votes. The Chabbewal bypoll was necessitated after Ishank Kumar's father Raj Kumar Chabbewal, who was a Congress MLA but later joined the AAP, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Hoshiarpur. Raj Kumar was elected to the Punjab Assembly from Chabbewal in 2017 and 2022 on Congress tickets. In Barnala, Congress candidate Kuldeep Singh Dhillon is leading by 3,781 votes against his nearest rival and AAP candidate Harinder Singh Dhaliwal after the eleventh round of counting. BJP nominee Kewal Singh Dhillon is trailing at the third spot.

In Gidderbaha, AAP's Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon was leading by 5,976 votes against his nearest rival and Congress nominee Amrita Warring, the wife of Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, after four rounds of counting. BJP candidate and former Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal was in the third spot.

From the Chabbewal reserve assembly segment, AAP's Dr Ishank Kumar Chabbewal, BJP's Sohan Singh Thandal and the Congress' Ranjit Kumar entered the fray.

In Chabbewal, the AAP's Ishank Kumar Chabbewal consolidated his pole position as he was leading by 21,081 votes against his nearest rival and Congress candidate Ranjit Kumar after the 10th round of counting. The BJP's Sohan Singh Thandal was in the third spot. Sensing victory, Ishank's supporters have already started celebrating.

From the Barnala seat, AAP's Harinder Singh Dhaliwal, Congress' Kuldeep Singh Dhillon and BJP's Kewal Singh Dhillon were in the fray.

There is a close competition between congress' Jatinder Kaur Randhawa and Aam Aadmi Party's Gurdeep Singh Randhawa. Gurdeep Singh is leading with 30,420 votes, while Jatinder Kaur is in the second spot with 29,915 votes.

Again, Punjab is leading in 3 seats (Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC), while congress is ahead in one seat in Barnela.

There is an interesting neck-to-neck fight between Kuldeep Singh Dhillon Kala Dhillon and Aam Admi Party's Harinder Singh Dhaliwal. Dhillon is now leading with 9,437 votes ahead of Dhaliwal. He has received 8,249 votes.

AAP candidate Harinder Singh Dhaliwal was leading in the bypoll to Barnala assembly segment against his nearest rival the Congress' Kuldeep Singh Dhillon, the initial trend showed. Dhaliwal was leading by 634 votes while BJP's Kewal Dhillon was in the third spot.

Counting of votes will take place in 18 rounds in Dera Baba Nanak, 15 rounds in Chabbewal, 13 rounds in Gidderbaha and 16 rounds in Barnala, as per officials.

The bypoll had witnessed a voter turnout of 63.91 per cent. The Gidderbaha segment saw the highest voting of 81.90 per cent, followed by Dera Baba Nanak at 64.01 per cent, Barnala at 56.34 per cent and Chabbewal at 53.43 per cent.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) stayed away from the bypolls. The party took the decision not to participate in the bypolls after Sukhbir Singh Badal, who has now resigned as the SAD president, failed to get any temporary relief from the Akal Takht, which declared him 'tankhaiya' (person guilty of religious misconduct), for the "mistakes" committed by his party and government from 2007 to 2017.

From the Gidderbaha seat, Congress' Amrita Warring, BJP's Manpreet Singh Badal and AAP's Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon were in the fray.

Punjab bypolls countings for four constituency seats have been started. The Aam Aadmi Party , Congress and BJP are looking to register victories in these seats.

Bypoll results counting will be soon started at 8 am.

Among the key contestants in the fray were former Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Sohan Singh Thandal and Ravikaran Singh Kahlon (BJP), Amrita Warring and Jatinder Kaur (Congress), and Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon and Ishank Kumar Chabbewal (AAP). Amrita is the wife of Punjab Congress chief and Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. Jatinder Kaur is the spouse of Gurdaspur MP and former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.

Counting centres have been set up at Sukhjinder Group of Institutes in Gurdaspur for Dera Baba Nanak, Rayat and Bahra Group of Institutes in Hoshiarpur for Chabbewal, Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) Bharu Road for Gidderbaha and S D College of Education for Barnala segment.

According to the officials, Foolproof security arrangements have been implemented at the counting centres.

The Aam Aadmi Party, Congress and BJP are looking to register victories in four constituency seats in Punjab.

In Punjab, polling took place for four assembly seats on Wednesday, November 20. The by-polls were necessitated after the incumbent legislators were elected to the Lok Sabha earlier this year. The polls are important for Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, whose government completed two-and-a-half years in office.

The Bypolls for four assembly constituency seats (Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal and Barnala) in Punjab took place on Wednesday, November 20.

The Gidderbaha segment in Punjab saw the highest turnout of 81.90 per cent. 

A voter turnout of 63.91 per cent was recorded in the Punjab bypolls.

Vote counting for four assembly seats in Punjab will begin at 8.00 am today, November 23.
