Gopalganj (Bihar), May 30: In a shocking incident, a doctor was brutally beaten up by seven prisoners in a district jail here resulting in his death.
The doctor, Buddhadev Singh, brother of ex-MP Satyadeo Singh, was called inside the jail by inmate Ranjan Yadav who was suffering from chicken pox yesterday, police said.
Upon entering the jail, a group of convicts brutally assaulted him.
The injured doctor was first admitted to a government hospital here but was then rushed to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) after his condition deteriorated. He was declared brought dead at PMCH.
There were conflicting versions as to what prompted the attack on the doctor.
While there was one account that the doctor was beaten up after he refused to issue a fake medical certificate to Ranjan Yadav, who wanted to be shifted to another jail, there was another version that the inmates were upset with the doctor as he was allegedly not visiting the jail on a routine basis.
An FIR has been registered against Ranjan Yadav and six other inmates, police said.
