Haflong (Assam), July 1: A prisoner in Haflong central jail attempted to commit suicide by consuming phenyl.
According to jail sources, the murder-accused Arjun Munda is being treated at the Haflong Civil Hospital after he consumed phenyl in his cell last night.
The jail inmate is out of danger now but is receiving treatment at the hospital, they added.
Munda has been in Haflong jail since 2009 in a murder case.
Jail officials said an enquiry has been ordered to find out how the prisoner got access to phenyl in his prison cell.
Last month, two prisoners belonging to the underground Dima National Liberation Front escaped from the same jail.
In 2008 too, members of an insurgent outfit had escaped from Haflong central jail, which is adjacent to Haflong police station in Dima Hasao district.
