Yamunanagar, Haryana, Dec 11: A pregnant bride Geeta ran out of her home in flames in Gadhola village under Chhappar p.s. in Yamunanagar on Friday, after her husband and mother-in-law set her on fire, police said.
Geeta was taken to a hospital by the village sarpanch with 90 per cent injuries, where she died.
Police have registered a case against her husband Ram Kumar and her mother-in-law but no arrest has yet been made.
In her statement given to a magistrate in hospital, Geeta alleged that her in-laws were demanding Rs 50,000 as dowry which her family was unable to fulfil. In her dying declaration, she alleged that her husband and mother-in-law poured kerosene oil on her and set her on fire.
Doctors have confirmed that the lady was pregnant at the time of her death.
