Srinagar, Jul 7: A police officer was injured in a clash with a group of protesters who had blocked Srinagar-Baramulla highway near here to demand airlifting of the body of a local man who died in Andhra Pradesh.
A group of villagers blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway at Soozath-Narbal, 14 kms from here, this morning to press for airlifting of the body of a local resident, Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, who died in Andhra Pradesh recently, a police spokesman said.
He said the protesting villagers were requested not to block the Highway.
However, the villagers did not relent and some miscreants among the mob pelted stones causing injuries to Station House Officer of Parimpora Police station, the spokesman said.
He said the police party exercised restraint and used ‘mild force' to chase away the protesters to ensure normal traffic on the highway.
Bhat had reportedly gone to New Delhi initially from where he went to Chennai in search of a job, the spokesman said, adding, he fell il when returning home by the Andaman Express where he died.
His body was spotted by some passengers who informed the Railway Police at Ram Gundum Police out post, under the jurisdiction of police station Qazipeath in Karim Nagar of Andhra Pradesh, the spokesman said
