Chandigarh: Amid growing concerns of terror activities from across the border seeing an upswing in bordering areas of Punjab, the state police today arrested three youths from Mohali and seized arms and ammunition from their possession.
The arrests came as an operation was on to eliminate the terrorists who attacked the Pathankot air base in the state on Saturday.
Punjab police said that the youths were arrested on a tip-off near Sunny enclave at Mohali. However, no link of the arrested youths involved in extremist activities has been established yet. "They had links with smugglers across the border. There are many cases of murder against them," Mohali SSP G S Bhullar told mediapersons today.
Investigations are on and the Punjab police has not ruled out their links with Pakistan terror elements.
Police have also seized mobile SIM cards, two AK 47 rifles and five pistols from their possession.
According to the police, the arms and ammunition recovered from the arrested youth are manufactured in Pakistan, China and Brazil.
