Points to remember before and after cyclone

New Delhi: Following is a list of Dos and Don'ts before and after cyclone circulated by National Disaster Management Authority:Dos & Don'ts:Collectors are requested to inform the cyclone warning to all coastal villages through radio / local TV / Tom Tom / village organizations, Sarpanchas and contact fishermen and also give wide publicity of the following:Before Cyclone :-• Keep your radio/TV sets fully serviceable and operational.• Keep listening to the News broadcast and weather forecast.• Do not believe false rumours and convey only authentic information heard by you over the radio.• Keep hurricane lantern filled with kerosene, flash light and enough dry cells.• Keep handy kerosene oil and candles/ lanterns/ torches.• Stock enough food items and essential consumer goods and provisions, plastic sheets for children and adults.• Store extra drinking water in suitable covered vessels.• Keep drugs and medicines handy.• Check houses, secure loose tiles by cementing wherever necessary repair doors and windows.• Check the area around the house, remove dead trees or branches lying, anchor removable objects like wooden posts, loose zinc sheets, loose bricks, garbage cans etc.,• Keep some wooden boards ready so that glass, windows can be blocked.• Keep furniture, implements, steel barrels, kerosene tins, garden tools and other articles in secure places.• Evacuate cattle from the low lying areas in quickly so that, they may not get struck on the way. During Cyclone:-• Keep calm at all times and observe instructions promptly to avoid danger to person and property.• Do not stir out when cyclone rages outside.• Do not take shelter on trees, dilapidated houses, old houses and insecure structures.• Do not remain on the top floors when Cyclone occurs. All doors, Windows and openings should be firmly secured and barricaded.• Shift to a secure place if the house cannot withstand the violence of cyclone storm if the foundation and roof are not strong enough or if the house is situated in a low lying area.• Stay as far as possible near the place of cyclone shelter so that you can rush into the cyclone shelter without being caught in the storm.• Stay away from broken electric wires. To save a person struck by an electric wire use materials such as dry stick to push the wire off.• Be very careful while walking or driving the vehicle. Avoid trees and branches in the way.• Head for the proper shelter or evacuation point indicated for your area.• Do not worry about leftover property since human lives and cattle lives are more important.• At the relief camp follow instructions of person incharge.• Remain in the relief camp till you are informed that you may leave.• Remain self possessed in any situation. Maintain patience and courage.
