PM Modi pays tribute to Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan on birth anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid homage to socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan and Bharatiya Jana Sangh member Nanaji Deshmukh on their birth anniversaries.

In a post on X, Modi praised Narayan for dedicating his life to social change, stating that his ideals will continue to inspire future generations. Modi also honoured Deshmukh, highlighting his work towards empowering rural communities, especially the underprivileged.

Jayaprakash Narayan, known for leading the anti-emergency movement in the 1970s, played a key role in uniting opposition parties against the Indira Gandhi government, resulting in Congress’s defeat in the 1977 election.

Nanaji Deshmukh, an RSS member and social activist, dedicated his later years to improving the lives of villagers, particularly in Bundelkhand. Both Narayan and Deshmukh were awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
