PM Modi on Women's Reservation Bill: Women Reservation Bill which cleared its final legislative hurdle at the Rajya Sabha guarantees 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha as well as the state legislative assemblies.
PM Modi on Women's Reservation Bill: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received rousing welcome at the BJP headquarters in the national capital today (September 22). The PM was welcomed by women party workers (mahila morcha members) and leaders at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central office extension in Delhi, a day after Parliament passed the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' (Women's Reservation Bill) in both houses of the Parliament.
"Today, I congratulate all women of the country. Yesterday and the day before, we witnessed the making of a new history. It is our fortune that crores of people gave us the opportunity to create that history," said PM Modi while addresing the women workers in the national capital.
"I congratulate the mothers, sisters and daughters of India. We have seen a new history being created on September 21 and 22. It is our privilege that people gave this opportunity to us in order to create this history," said PM Modi at Nari Shakti Vandan-Abhinandan Karyakram at BJP headquarters.
"The coming generations will discuss about this decision. I congratulate the country on passage of 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' in the Parliament with majority," added PM Modi.
"When an absolute majority of Government came to power in the country, such a huge work could be completed...We did not let anyone's selfishness become a wall before women's reservation. Before this, whenever this Bill came before the Parliament, only whitewash was done and determined efforts were never made. People did vote for the Bill but a few people felt uneasy about why have the words 'Nari Shakti Vandan' been brought. Shouldn't the women of the country be given salutations? Should there be so much arrogance in men and our political ideology that we are unhappy over 'Nari Shakti Vandan'? Now, when there is stable govt, the Bill is a reality".
"There were many obstacles in the way of this Women's Reservation Bill. But When intentions are pure and there is transparency in attempts, then we witness results overcoming all obstacles. It is a record in itself that this bill got so much support in Parliament. I thank all political parties and MPs for it," said PM Modi today.
"Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is not a normal law, this is the proclamation of new democratic commitment of new India," said PM Modi.
