The pipe bombs that exploded in Patna on Sunday last were a mixture of potassium chlorate, ammonium nitrate and ammonium power, each weighted over 440 grams and fitted with analog clocks of Lotus brand.
The bombs contained ball bearings and nails, while the pipes acted as splinters. The pipes had 39 volt batteries for the detonator and 1.15 volt pencil cells for the Lotus brand clocks.
Similar bombs were used in Bodh Gaya blasts in July this year. In Bodh Gaya, 2-kg gas cylinders were used, where as in Patna, pipe bombs were used.
