Parliament Winter Session HIGHLIGHTS: Rajya Sabha adjourned till tomorrow after BJP MPs raise Soros issue

BJD MP Sasmit Patra said, "It is unfortunate that this kind of a logjam is happening in the Parliament... Smaller regional parties come with special mention, zero hours supplementary for questions and debates. But when the voices of states are not echoed in the Council of States the entire day gets washed away. Thousands of people want to see that their issues and concerns are raised. It's high time that a rule should come that adjournment should not become a part of the parliamentary process. We are into the third week and all 3 weeks have seen adjournments and ruckus. A logjam breaking has to be done by both the larger parties, the Congress and the BJP. The voices of states like Odisha need to be heard..."

According to the sources, the Constitution Day debate will take place on December 16 and 17  in Rajya Sabha. At the Business Advisory Committee meeting, it has been decided that 12 hours will be allocated for discussion on Constitution Day. The BJP will get 6 hours, while the Opposition 6 hours too. There will be no zero hour, no question hour or no special mentioning. If there will be consensus amongst leaders then hours can be added and decisions will be taken onthe same day. In Rajya Sabha Home Minister Amit Shah will initiate the debate at 11 am on December 16.

Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said, "There is internal democracy in the INDIA alliance, people are putting forth their views but the country knows who the leader is, the country knows who has covered the roads by walking 4,000 kilometres, the country knows who is fighting with his head held high against the communal politics, corruption, dictatorship in this country, his name is Rahul Gandhi."

Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi left the Parliament after both Houses were adjourned for the day.

"Parliament is a sacred place and this place has a very high dignity, prestige and decorum. We have also achieved independence in this place. Agreement and disagreement has been the tradition of our democracy. I request you to maintain dignity. For the last few days, I have been seeing that the kind of slogans, posters and masks being used in the Parliament premises are not only indecent but are also against the Parliamentary process and tradition. I have to say with regret that the behaviour of the Opposition leaders is inappropriate in this House," said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Congress-led Opposition gave a notice to move a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to remove him from the chairmanship.

Stepping up attack, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju asked the Congress to introspect why other Opposition leaders were not taking Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi seriously.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP JP Nadda once again linked the Congress to the “anti-India” George Soros Foundation amid a ruckus in the Rajya Sabha.

"Today, during the Zero Hour', I will again raise the issue of Soros. The way Congress divided the nation with foreign powers, they are trying to do the same again. They have to answer my 10 questions," said BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

The procedure of the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon soon after the commencement of regular work. The Opposition MPs continued their protest agianst the government in the Upper House on Tuesday.

Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra led the Opposition's protest march against the government inside Parliament premises.

"BJP and PM Modi are the ones who started distributing 'freebies'. Wherever there are elections, they start distributing 'free ki revedi'," said Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla slammed the protesting MPs from Opposition, saying their behaviour is not appropriate.

"Issues like corruption, farmers' march, Manipur is burning, inflation and unemployment are skyrocketing. The government has lost control. We want discussion over these. If we raise these issues inside the House, we are not given permission, and the House is adjourned. So, we have decided to raise all these issues outside Parliament gate and let the House function, however, the government is doing dishonesty and not allowing the House to function," said Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Opposition's protest in Parliament.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached for the meeting of Congress Lok Sabha MPs in the Main Committee Room of Parliament Annexe. The meeting will be chaired by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
