Parliament Winter Session 2023: Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha adjourned till 11:00 am tomorrow amid security chaos

Parliament Winter Session 2023: After the security of Parliament was breached, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla ordered a "high-level inquiry" into the incident in which two people jumped into the house chamber from the visitor's gallery with coloured smoke canisters.LS Speaker lauded the Lok Sabha members, security personnel, chamber staff, and marshals for rising to the occasion and capturing the perpetrators. "The incident that happened today is a topic of concern for all of us and is serious as well...A high-level investigation is being done and accordingly, action will be taken. A comprehensive review will be done regarding the security in the House. He said in 2001 too central paramilitary forces and other security had made collective efforts and prevented a terror attack on Parliament."This has also been sought by members of Parliament. What improvements can be made in the security measure will be assessed after discussing it matter with members," Birla said."The security will be further strengthened in consultations with the members, I will be discussing the matter with leaders of all political parties," the Speaker said.

    Parliament passes bill to set up central tribal university in Telangana

    Parliament today passed a bill to establish the Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University in Telangana after a nod from the Rajya Sabha. The Upper House passed The Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023, by voice vote in the absence of opposition members who had earlier staged a walk-out to press for their demand for a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah on the security breach in the Lok Sabha. Two persons jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour and released yellow gas from canisters and shouted slogans before being overpowered by MPs. Around the same time, two persons, including a woman, also sprayed coloured gas from canisters while shouting slogans "tanashahi nahi chalegi" outside the Parliament premises.

    Parliament clears bill to repeal 76 outdated, obsolete laws

    Parliament on Wednesday passed a bill to repeal 76 redundant and obsolete laws with the government saying the move is part of its continuing efforts to improve the ease of living and doing business. The Repealing and Amending Bill, 2023 was cleared in the Rajya Sabha with a voice vote. Lok Sabha had cleared the legislation on July 27 this year.
    In December last year, the government introduced the Repealing and Amending Bill to cull 65 old laws. But the bill could not come up for discussion in subsequent sessions. The government later moved amendment to add 11 more laws to the list, bringing the total to 76 laws.
