Parliament Session: 'Have given free hand to agencies to take action against corruption', says PM Modi

Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die on Wednesday after the House adopted the Motion of Thanks on the President's address to the joint sitting Parliament. The 264th session of Rajya Sabha, which began on June 27, concluded after Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to the motion of thanks, and the House adopted it. Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Tuesday.

INDIA bloc parties, led by the Congress, staged a walkout of Rajya Sabha on Wednesday after the Leader of the Opposition was not allowed to intervene during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech. LoP Mallikarjun Kharge wanted to intervene during Modi's reply to a discussion on motion thanking the President for her address to the joint sitting of the Parliament. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, however, did not heed to his requests, leading to INDIA block MPs, raising slogans and asking for the LoP to be allowed to speak. Modi continued his speech amid the slogan-shouting. This went on for some time with Kharge repeatedly pleading to be allowed to speak. When the permission did come through, INDIA bloc MPs staged a walkout of the House. Dhankhar condemned their act of walkout, saying this was an insult to the Constitution. Modi too decried the walkout and said he is not trying to score points but is duty-bound to give an account of his government's performance.

"In the history of independent India and its parliamentary journey, It has happened after many decades that the public has given the mandate to a government for the third consecutive time. After 60 years, it has happened that the government has returned after being in power for 10 years. I realise this is not an ordinary thing. Some people deliberately tried to black out this decision given by the public," said PM Modi. 

"The President's Address had inspiration and encouragement for the people of the country, and also awarded the path of the truth," said PM Modi while speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "In the last two and a half days, around 70 MPs participated in this discussion. I express gratitude to all of you MPs in enriching this discussion on the President's Address."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak in the Rajya Sabha shortly. He will take part in the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address.

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which was adjourned sine die on Tuesday, recorded a productivity of 103 per cent, Speaker Om Birla said. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that a total of 7 sittings were conducted during the session for about 34 hours.

The NDA on Tuesday nominated Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) leader and former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha from Bihar.  Kushwaha, who lost the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections from Karakat, has been a member of the Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha, Legislative Assembly, and Legislative Council in the past. Confirming his nomination, Bihar BJP President and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary said, "Upendra Kushwaha is a senior leader. When the notification of the Rajya Sabha by-election is issued, he will be sent to the Upper House. All the constituent parties of the NDA have agreed to his nomination." Sources said the decision was made collectively by all the NDA allies to maintain the support of the Kushwaha community, which plays a significant role in Bihar politics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong attack on the Congress and took "balak budhi" and "tumse na ho payega" jibe at its leader Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha on Tuesday and accused him of "linking Hindus with violence".In his over two-hour reply to the motion of thanks to the President's address in Lok Sabha, PM Modi said Congress has become a "parasite" on its allies and has made "lies" a weapon of its politics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to speak in Rajya Sabha today (July 3) at around 12 pm. PM will reply to the Motion of Thanks on President’s address on Wednesday.
