Parliament Session: Amit Shah targets Rahul, says 54-year-old 'yuva' roams around with Constitution
Parliament Winter Session LIVE Updates: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal tabled the Constitutional Amendment Bill for the simultaneous elections. The bill was opposed by opposition including Congress, TMC and SP among others.
Parliament Winter Session Updates: The Constitution debate, which began in the Rajya Sabha after two days in the Lok Sabha, saw Union Minister JP Nadda initiating the discussion on Monday, with Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introducing the One Nation, One Election Bill in the Lok Sabha. The bill, which aims for simultaneous polls, faced strong opposition, particularly from Congress, with Gourav Gogoi demanding it be sent to a Joint Parliamentary Committee. Critics argue that the bill undermines the federal structure, a key tenet of the Constitution. On Tuesday, Home Minister Amit Shah, in his speech on 75 years of the Indian Constitution, defended the BJP’s relatively modest 22 amendments compared to the Congress’s 77, accusing the latter of curbing freedoms, particularly under Jawaharlal Nehru’s first amendment. Meanwhile, the One Nation, One Election Bill sparked intense debate, with 269 MPs voting in favor and 198 against. Following Shah’s response in the Rajya Sabha, the session was adjourned until Wednesday, December 18, 11 am.
