Parliament Session: Amit Shah targets Rahul, says 54-year-old 'yuva' roams around with Constitution

Following Home minister Amit Shah's reply on the Constitution debate, the Rajya Sabha has now been adjourned till Wednesday, December 18, 11 am.

Amit Shah credited Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his pivotal role in uniting India, emphasising that the nation emerged stronger as a unified entity.

Amit Shah addressed Rajya Sabha, advocating for the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal to synchronise national and state elections, aiming to streamline the electoral process and reduce costs.

Lok Sabha has been adjourned and will resume at 3:00 pm.

The voting over the motion to introduce One Nation, One Election Bill admitted in the Lok Sabha.

Home Minister Amit Shah backs the proposal to send the One Nation, One Election Bill to JPC.

AIMIM leader Assaduddin Owaisi also opposed the One Nation, One Election Bill tabled in the Lok Sabha by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. He said, "I oppose this draconian and unconstitutional bill. This bill indirectly introduces presidential style of democracy, this bill is based on maximizing political gain and convenience. This bill will finish off regional parties. This bill is only brought in to massage the ego of the supreme leader. I oppose the bill." 

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi opposed the introduction of the Constitution Amendment Bill in Lok Sabha for simultaneous elections. He said that the bill is an assault on the right to vote. He demanded the bill to be sent to the JPC.

DMK leader TR Baalu urged the government to refer ONOE bills to the parliamentary committee.

Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) ET Muhammed Basheer opposes the One Nation, One Election Bill in Lok Sabha.

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai opposed the Constitutional Amendment Bill regarding simultaneous elections in Lok Sabha.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supports the Constitutional Amendment Bill tabled for simultaneous elections in Lok Sabha. 

After Congress, TMC and SP, DMK has also opposed the One Nation, One Election Bill. DMK leader TR Baalu opposes the introduction of the Constitution Amendment Bill (One Nation, One Election Bill) in Lok Sabha.

TMC also opposed the One Nation, One Election Bill. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee called it as an attack on the basic structure of the Constitution as state legislatures are not at the mercy of Centre.

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Dharmendra Yadav also demands immediate withdrawal of the Bill. He stated that the BJP wants dictatorship in the country.

As Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the One Nation, One Election Bill in Lok Sabha, Congress MP Manish Tewari opposed the bill citing terms of state assemblies.  He said India is the Union of States. It is attack on the Constitution.

Nadda, while speaking on the Constitution debate in Rajya Sabha, said that the 50th anniversary of the Emergency (June 25, 2025) will be celebrated as Anti-Democracy Day.

BJP has issued three Line whip to Rajya Sabha MPs for voting for election to the Committee on AIIMS, Bhubaneswar & Welfare of Other Backward Classes Committee. The election will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 11:00 am. to 2:00 pm in Samvidhan Sadan's Room no 63.

On One Nation One Election Bill, TDP MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu said, "We are supporting this One Nation One Election Bill because it is a pro-development Bill. This Bill will help in good governance in the country. Whenever there is a discussion on development, discussion on good governance, Chandrababu Naidu is always at the forefront, he has always supported everything in these two aspects. In the same way, we are supporting this One Nation One Election Bill."

BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar reacted to the protests held by opposition MPs against atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. He said that the protests were surprising as dthe efinition of minorities has changed for them in India. He called it the Modi magic that the opposition is protesting for Hindus. 

In Rajya Sabha JP Nadda said that when they talk about culture, many feel it is not progressive but there are imprints of Aanta, Ellora and lotus in the Constitution. 

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee slams BJP govt for trying to introduce One Nation, One Election Bill in the Parliament while Constitution debate is underway in Rajya Sabha.

CPI(M) leader John Brittas reacts to One Nation, One Election Bill. He said, "It means this government wants to have one leader, one party, one ideology, one language... It's against the federal principles, we will strongly oppose it. How can you make sure that elections in states are synchronised with Lok Sabha, these are two different entities. Moreover, if a state government falls, it would be a truncated assembly. It is not going to save the expenses, rather enhance it. You cannot control a democratic process like that." 

While speaking in Rajya Sabha on the Constitution debate, JP Nadda said that the nation is indebted to Constituent assembly members who shaped our law of the land.

Union Minister JP Nadda started the second day of the Constitution debate in the Rajya Sabha. He hailed India as the mother of democracy.

• Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991
• Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav said that his party will oppose the One Nation, One Election Bill as it is against all sections of the Constitution.

NCP Sharad Pawar faction MP Supriya Sule reracted to the One Nation, One Election Bill saying that she demands the bill to be sent to the JPC.
