Mumbai, Oct 10: Noted Hindustani classical singer Pandit Jasraj has condoled the death of Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, saying that the news has enveloped him with immense grief.
“The world has suffered great losses this year - stalwarts of music, first Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and now the sudden demise of my best musical friend and brother Padma Bhushan Jagjit Singh,” Jasraj said.
He said the news has enveloped him with such immense grief that he is unable to express his feelings. “The world and innumerable fans have lost an accomplished composer,” he said.
“Jagjit Singh was India's greatest Ghazal exponent of this generation, who took this genre of Indian music to the masses in his inimitable style, has touched and enriched the lives of many,” Pt Jasraj said.
“He had recently begun singing Bhajans as well, which only provided solace and peace of mind to his entire legion of ever-increasing fans across the globe,” he added. PTI
