Palwal, Haryana, July 26: An under-construction building of Shri Ram College here collapsed on Monday afternoon, killing eight labourers. Two other labourers were critical, said R C Verma, deputy commissioner, Palwal.
The SSP Anil Dhawan was full of praise of local villagers who rushed to the site on seeing the collapse. They dug out concrete and began rescue operations.
The bodies of eight labourers were extracted from the debris, while two others were sent in a critical condition to the hospital.
No official of the college management was present at the spot when the collapse took place, police said.
