Jammu: Pakistan again violated the bilateral ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday by resorting to unprovoked firing at Indian positions in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said.
"Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Balakote sector of the LoC at our positions at 8 pm using small arms," Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Manish Mehta said.
He said Indian soldiers ‘responded with same calibre weapons'.
The exchange of fire continued till 8.10 pm.
There was no casualty on the Indian side, he said.
The growing incidents of ceasefire violation along the border with Pakistan are an attempt by the neighbouring country's armed forces to scuttle the ongoing assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Relations between India and Pakistan were strained in September when India called off foreign-secretary-level talks with Pakistan after latter's envoy met with Kashmiri separatist leaders.
