Ahmedabad: Pakistani forces today fired upon a boat carrying Indian fishermen off the Gujarat Coast in which one person was killed.
The deceased has been identified as Iqbal.
The boast was reportedly in the international waters when Pakistan's Maritime Security Agency, a paramilitary arm of Pakistan Navy, fired upon it.
Some reports suggested that there were two boats and not one. Times of India reported that boats were named Premraj and Ramraj. Iqbal was onboard Premraj and was from Porbander in Gujarat.
Premraj had set sail from the port of Okha in Gujarat with five people on board on September 8.
Responding to the situation, the Indian coastguard rushed two ships, the Vijit and the Meeraben, to investigate the incident and launch a search operation.
The ministry of external affairs is expected to issue a statement soon on the killing of Indian fisherman.
