New Delhi: Lalji Patel, the proud owner of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's monogrammed bandhgala suit, who shot to limelight for having purchased the suit for a staggering amount of Rs 4.31 crore, is back in the news once again.
This time around, Patel will be donating Rs 200 crore to ten thousand girls across the country. A diamond trader, builder and owner of a private airline in Surat, Patel announced yesterday that he will be offering Rs 2 lakh each to the 10,000 girls he will select from across India.
Present at the Vatsalya Gram charitable trust in Vrindavan, Patel said that this is a small contribution in the direction of ‘Beti Padho Beti Bachao' movement.
Lalji had bought the navy blue suit with Modi's name in full – Narendra Damodardas Modi – embroidered on the fabric to look like golden stripes which he had worn for the Republic Day parade and the summit talks with US President Barack Obama in New Delhi. Obama was Guest of Honour at the Republic Day parade in 2015.
“I always wanted to do something in the interest of country. This event gave me a chance to do something in national interest. I never thought that this incredible suit will come to me,” he had said after the big purchase at an auction.
In another initiative akin to his proposed charity to 10,000 girls, Patel had donated Rs 2 lakh each to 5,000 newly born girls.
