New Delhi: Over five lakh families have applied for receiving food grains under the ambitious Food Security Programme which was launched here last month by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Delhi's Food and Supplies Minister Harun Yusuf said his department was working hard to ensure “effective implementation” of the scheme in the city.
“More than five lakh households covering 25 lakh people have applied for enrolment under the scheme.
On an average, we are receiving more than 50,000 forms daily,” he said.
He said Delhi government will provide benefits under the scheme to 73.5 lakh people in the city out of the total population of 1.68 crore.
In the first phase, the government will distribute food grains to 32 lakh beneficiaries.
“The response towards the scheme is overwhelming. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure effective implementation of the scheme,” he said.
