A day after Orissa government ordered an administrative inquiry into the death of a student at a state-run school in Bargarh, the teacher who had allegedly beaten him up for not doing home task was suspended on Tuesday.
"Dambarudhar Rana, class teacher of the dead student Ajay Bagarti (12) of George High School, has been suspended with immediate effect," Bargarh district inspector of education Subodh Das said.
The action against Rana came to ensure fair probe after the state government asked the district collector of Bargarh to investigate the death of the sixth standard student allegedly due to corporal punishment, official sources said.
School and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena said the Collector was asked to submit his report within 48 hours regarding Bagarti's death.
He was allegedly beaten up by Rana for not completing homework and died during treatment on Sunday. The parents of the boy lodged a complaint against the school authorities following which the state government swung into action. While the teacher could not be traced, school's head master R K Purohit welcomed the inquiry ordered by the state government into the incident. PTI
