Four assailants on two motorbikes fired three bullets at senior Biju Janata Dal minister Maheshwar Mohanty on Friday night in Puri, ciritcally injuring him.
Mohanty, 59, has been shifted to Kalinga Hospital, Bhubaneswar, where doctors will perform a surgery today to extract bullets lodged in left arm, shoulder and back.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today visited the hospital and enquired about his condition.
None of the assailants have been arrested so far. On the other hand, the lone eyewitness to the attack was abducted late last night by three youths riding two motorbikes.
Mohanty was riding an Activa bike. and was returning from a festival at Nrusingha Ballabh in Harichandi sahi to his house in Kumuti Sahi, when the assailants waylaid him near Amala Club square at around 9:10 pm.
