New Delhi, Jan 10: Three schools run by the Defence forces have been issued showcause notices by Delhi government on complaints of denying nursery admission to children from economically weaker sections on “flippant” basis. 

Naval Public School, Air Force Bal Bharti School and Army Public School were asked to explain why it denied admissions to students from the weaker sections as mandated by the city government.

“Show cause notices have been issued to notices to these schools for flouting nursery admission guidelines. They flouted the guidelines by denying admission to EWS students on flippant basis,” Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told reporters.

Schools have been directed to abide the admission schedule prescribed the city government, he said, adding that district admission monitoring committees have been constituted in each districts led by Deputy Director. 

He also said instructions have been given to schools not to insist on domicile certificates and attested copies of birth certificates from students from disadvantaged sections. 

A total of 137 complaints were received from parents with regard to nursery admissions and more than 50 per cent of it were attended to, Singh said.

The complaints included those of charging higher price for admission forms, refusal to issue and accept forms from weaker sections.
