New Delhi, Nov 19 : Janata Party President Subramaniam Swamy today said he had no objection to Attorney General G E Vahanvati representing the Prime Minister in the Supreme Court in the 2G spectrum case.
"I have no objection if Vahanvati defends the Prime Minister. But if he comes for the 2G case, then I have a problem," said Swamy, who had filed a petition in the apex court seeking a direction to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for grant of sanction for prosecution of A Raja in the 2G spectrum case when he was the Telecom Minister.
Government today replaced Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium with Vahanvati to represent the Prime Minister in the Supreme Court in the 2G spectrum case in the wake of stinging observations from the bench.
Swamy ridiculed Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari's assertion that he had not filed any complaint in court and therefore the question of granting sanction does not arise.
"Why the same question was not raised by the Solicitor General, who represented the government. Why the judges of the Supreme Court did not point out this. He (Tewari) does not know about law. I do not know from where he has got his law degree," Swami said when asked to comment on Tewari's contention.
At an AICC briefing yesterday, Tewari had said, "When a complaint is filed and the court finds it worth proceeding with, question of sanction only arises then."
Tewari had added that since Swami had not filed any complaint in any court, therefore the question of granting sanction does not arise.
Swami, however, said he is well within his rights to approach the Sessions Court and request it to issue a summon directly to someone on the basis of evidence. PTI
