New Delhi, May 22: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Tuesday sought a response from Haryana's director general of police and Kaithal police chief following media reports that a Dalit boy was assaulted by a man who was part of a group which had attacked Dalits earlier as well.
The apex human rights panel has sought reports from the two officials on the issue within a month.
The NHRC's direction came after it took note of the media reports that one of the 17 absconding accused, wanted for assaulting Dalits in Haryana's Kaithal in April, had carried out a similar attack on another Dalit boy May 14.
The commission has already issued notice to Kaithal's district magistrate and police chief after media reports that over 100 Dalits were forced to flee a village in Kaithal after they were attacked by a group of upper caste men April 13.
The group was upset because a Dalit boy had married an upper caste girl.
"Even as a response is awaited on the earlier notice, this new violent incident is reported to have happened the deadline for response to earlier notice is May 23," said the NHRC in a statement.
