New Delhi: Taking a serious note of recent media reports about medical negligence leading to a child birth at the gate of a government hospital here, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued a notice to Delhi Government.
The NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports that on account of negligence of doctors' at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, a woman delivered a baby outside, at the hospital gate under the open sky in the night of the July 27.
Reportedly, the woman was in advance stage of labour and had come to the hospital, but the doctors, instead of admitting her, asked her to get an ultrasound test done from outside. In the process, she delivered the baby outside the hospital, the Commission said in a statement.
“The contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of right to health of the victim woman and her newborn,” said the Commission.
Notices have been issued to the Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare in Delhi government and a factual report in this regard has been sought within two weeks.
