The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice on the petitions filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which sought the transfer of pending cases before the Rajasthan High Court, related to the NEET-UG 2024 examination. The development comes amid the batch of pleas in front of the apex court seeking reexamination and recalling the NEET-UG results.
SC hearing on re-test pleas
The apex court is hearing over three dozen pleas where the aspirants have alleged paper leak and raised the issue of awarding compensatory marks an anomaly in the question of NEET-UG. While hearing the petitions, the Supreme Court on June 8, clearly stated that the leak had happened, only its extent has to be identified. The Supreme Court had also asked the CBI, the Central government and the NTA to file affidavits and listed the matter on July 11. Later on July 11, the Supreme Court listed the matter on July 18 as some of the petitioners had not received the affidavits filed by NTA and the central government.
NTA, Centre denied malpractice
In its affidavit, NTA denied any mass malpractice in the medical entrance exam. Centre said that the data analytics done by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras shows that there is neither any indication of mass malpractice nor a localised set of candidates being benefitted leading to abnormal scores. Over the claims of paper leak through the social media platform 'Telegram', the NTA informed the Supreme Court that the Telegram videos allegedly showing photos of leaked paper are fake and manipulated.
Moreover, the CBI during the course of its investigation has so far arrested eight accused in the Bihar NEET-UG paper leak case. Most recent arrest include two accused from Nalanda and Gaya. One of them is NEET-UG aspirant Sunny who hails from Nalanda and the second is the father of another candidate Ranjit Kumar who is from Gaya. The CBI has also arrested one accused each in connection with alleged manipulation in Latur and Godhra, and one from Dehradun in connection with general conspiracy, the officials said.
