Raipur: Maoists kidnapped two villagers and killed them at a ‘jan adalat' (people's court) in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Narayanpur district, police said today.
Ramlal and Manter, natives of Aatpal and Bailapad villages respectively under Benoor police station limits, were murdered by the rebels who branded them as police informers, Narayanpur SP Amit Tukaram Kamble told PTI.
As per preliminary investigation, the duo was abducted by Naxalites on January 14 from their respective places. After their interrogation, the ultras held a ‘jan adalat' on Saturday evening where they executed the two villagers, the SP said.
The bodies of the victims were recovered in a forest under Farasgaon police station limits yesterday.
Prime facie, it appears that they were strangulated to death, Kamble said, adding that the post-mortem would ascertain the exact cause of their death. After being informed about the incident, security personnel were rushed to the spot to recover the bodies.
A search operation has been launched in the region to trace the assailants, he added.
