Mumbai: The panchayat polls of Navi Mumbai has  hit the headlines because of a female contestant Leena Arjun Garad's property declaration.

Leena has declared that her property is worth Rs 200 crore. She will contest the January 19 polls on a Kharghar Colony Forum (KCF) ticket from ward number 3.  

Leena's husband is an assistant police inspector posted with the Navi Mumbai police commissionerate.

She own a fleet of 17 four-wheelers, including high-end cars like Fortuner, Honda City and Scorpio, seven plots measuring 40mt-250mt in Ulwe where major construction activity is underway.

The declared assets have raised several eyebrows.  Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) leader Jayant Patil has demanded an inquiry into Leena and her husband's sources of income.

Leena has stated that she has been in the construction business for the last 13 years and all her dealings are on paper. She mentioned that she has been paying income tax to the government and filing returns
