Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today urged his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee to ensure normal supply of potatoes from her state to Odisha.
Patnaik sought Banerjee's help in the wake of her government's decision to stop transportation of potatoes from West Bengal to Odisha.
“West Bengal Chief Minister has assured Patnaik that she would look into the matter,” a press release by Chief Minister's Office said here.
The decision to stop potato transportation from West Bengal has led to unprecedented rise in the price of the vegetable during ‘Kartik', an auspicious month in Odisha.
West Bengal meets Odisha's potato demand, officials said.
With potato scarcity hitting the market in Odisha, price of the vegetable has touched Rs 30 a kg from Rs 12 to Rs 14 per kg last week.
