New Delhi: There was a narrow escape for Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi at Delhi's IGI airport on Tuesday when he was returning from Raebareli in his private plane.

His flight was given clearance to land on the runway. But an Indian Air Force aircraft, an Ilyushin aircraft, was on the same runway.

Just moments before his Cessna Citation jet was about to touch down on Tuesday, air traffic controllers asked Rahul's plane to abort landing and take off again to avoid a collision on the runway between the two planes.

Luckily for the Gandhi scion and the crew on the aircraft, the pilots managed to pull the yoke and climb again.

The Cessna Citation, an ultra luxury American business jet, was being piloted by two captains.

The directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) has ordered a probe into this serious lapse.
