New Delhi: Southern University System of Louisiana in United States has decided to confer an honorary doctorate degree to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his work in inclusive growth.
The university in a statement said that it was impressed by Modi's agenda of inclusive growth in Gujarat.
The university board had met on Thursday at the Baton Rouge campus and decided the conferment of the PhD to Modi. Baton Rogue is the capital of Louisiana State located about 150 km from New Orleans.
Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana, who is also an Indian-American, was born in Baton Rogue.
The degree is in recognition of Modi's contribution towards social transformation, especially for empowering women and minorities during chief ministership in Gujarat, the university said in a statement.
The university has also invited him to be the Commencement Speaker for Fall 2015 Commencement.
