New Delhi, July 9: The  outgoing vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Najeeb Jung, was today sworn in as Leiutenant Governor of Delhi by the chief justice of Delhi High Court Justice B D Ahmed.

The oath taking ceremony was held at Raj Niwas, the official residence of Lt. Governor.

The ceremony was attended by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, her ministers, and other politicians and bureaucrats of Delhi NCT government.

Sheila Dikshit praised Najeeb Jung saying he was a "very welcome personality, very very wise and with many advantages. He understands the administration, has been the vice-chancellor and ran the Jamia University extremely well and he is above all a Delhiwalla."

Jung, 62,  is the 19th Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and he has replaced Tejinder Khanna, also a former bureaucrat and who incidentally had two stints in this coveted position.

Jung became an officer of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1973. He belonged to the cadre of Madhya Pradesh before becoming a Joint Secretary in Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas from where he sought premature retirement.
