Hyderabad, Aug 14: Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu slammed the Centre over the way it dealt with the fast proposed to be undertaken by social activist Anna Hazare on the Lokpal Bill issue.

“The restrictions imposed on him amount to suppressing the movement. People would understand the truth and they would rebel. Since they (UPA government) have failed to check corruption, social activists and civil society activists are welcomed by people,” he told reporters.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and member of Team Anna Hazare Arvind Kejriwal had met Naidu earlier and sought his support to their campaigns.

Naidu also said the party's politbureau would meet tomorrow to discuss issues of corruption and agriculture crisis in the state.

“We will stand by farmers in the state, who have declared crop holiday due to distress. We will take up a campaign on the issue. National leaders of various parties would come to see the fields. This Chief Minister (N Kiran Kumar Reddy) cannot even go to the fields, where crop holiday has been declared,” he charged.

Asked about Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's comments that the Centre would convene a meeting of political parties from Andhra Pradesh, if they made up their mind on the Telangana issue, Naidu said it is for the Centre to take a decision on the issue.

“It is his (Chidambaram) duty. After the Sri Krishna Committee gave its report, we said it is for the Centre to decide. You have power and responsibility. We had said we will not attend the all-party meeting. Why should he put the blame on us. They should decide. We are very clear,” he said. PTI
