Kohima:  Nagaland Governor P B Acharya today appealed to the Naga people to accept the appointment of R N Ravi as the new Interlocutor for Naga peace talks.

The Governor was reacting to the disagreement expressed by various civil societies in the state following the appointment of Chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) R N Ravi as the new interlocutor by the Central Government on August 29 last.

Interacting with media persons at Raj Bhavan here today, Acharya said the new BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is concerned for the North East and it also has the guts to solve the problems of the region, including the Naga political issue.

He said the right time has come and the people of the state should give the chance towards finding a solution to the Naga political issue by accepting the new interlocutor.

“We are in an advantageous position as the present government in the Centre wants to solve the problem and march ahead,” he said.

This, he said, would help in bringing about peace, development and progress to the state.

Acharya, who had been working as student and political activist in the region for last several decades, said that the people are tired as nothing has come out during the last 17 years of peace process and therefore it has to be expedited.

“If Nagaland can start in the right direction, it will improve the entire North Eastern Region,” he said.

Expressing concern over the deficit financing of the State, which has crossed over Rs. 1252 crore for the fiscal 2014-15, he said the Accountant General of the state should be bold enough to dig out all corruptions.

He also opined that measures should be taken up to explore and exploit available natural resources such as oil and mineral to improve the financial health of the state.

The Governor also emphasised on the need for strengthening the ‘3Es' - Education, Electricity and Employment' for the state to progress ahead.
