Ahmedabad: Disgraced Gujarat police officer D G Vanjara, who fired a salvo at chief minister Narendra Modi and close Modi associate Amit Shah after resigning from IPS, has told a relative: "My God (Modi) could not save my guru (Asaram). How will he save me?"
Vanzara is a loyal devotee of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu. He used to get cow milk from Asaram's gaushala located near his ashram in Motera, Ahmedabad. Even when he was posted as Border Range police chief, the former DIG used to get cow milk brought from Ahmedabad to Banaskantha daily, a distance of 140 km.
The arrest of Asaram Bapu and the silence of BJP's de facto PM candidate Narendra Modi proved to be the last straw for Vanzara, who proudly describes himself as a "deshbhakt" (patriot) for eliminating anti-national elements.
Vanzara used to get cow milk from Asaram's ashram inside his cell in Sabarmati jail regularly, but after he was shifted to Taloja jail near Mumbai, this facility stopped.
A family member of Vanzara told a newspaper: "Saheb (Vanzara) was keeping patience for the last seven years. He was moved to Taloja jail because of dirty politics. And then Asaram Bapu, who for the last seven years has been Saheb's strength, was arrested. Saheb was confident that his god (Modi) would save his guru. But now he is a broken man".
In jail, Vanzara wrote at least two dozen poems in praise of his guru. Vanzara used to regularly speak to Asaram over phone from Sabarmati jail, but that facility, too, stopped after he was shifted to Taloja jail.
