Muzaffarnagar: Authorities have recommended the suspension of three revenue officials to the Uttar Pradesh government over failing to identify some people as Muzaffarnagar riots victims which caused delay in providing them compensation.

The divisional commissioner of Saharanpur division Tanvir Zafer Ali has recommended suspension of the three officials to state government for dereliction of duty as they were found responsible for delay in providing compensation to 101 people of Hasanpur village who they failed to identify as riot victims, Shamli District Magistrate N P Singh said.

Ali has also ordered a departmental enquiry against Shamli Sub Divisional Magistrate Ramotar Singh for alleged negligence of his duty, Singh said.

The three officials - Nayab tehsildar Madan Rathore, head clerk Nakli Singh and clerk Anuj Sharma had not identified the villagers who were displaced from Hasanpur village during the Muzaffarnagar riots that occurred between August and September 2013, as victims of the riots eligible for compensation.

The state government again gave orders to identify the victims and during the inquiry of the committee, the villagers were found to be eligible for compensation which was later given to them.
