Muzaffarnagar: The Uttar Pradesh government has extended by three months tenure of the one-man inquiry commission probing Muzaffarnagar riots.
Following the extension, the commission has fixed its sitting from December 11 to 18, during which statements of officials posted here during the riots would be recorded, Additional District Magistrate Indermani Tripathi told newsmen here today.
The commission of retired judge of Allahabad High Court Vishnu Sahai, constituted on September 9 last year, has been given the extension for the third time.
The concerned officials have been summoned by the commission which had sought more time to complete the inquiry, Tripathi added.
Earlier it had been given extension twice for six months each and its tenure ended on November 9.
The state government had asked the commission to probe the violence starting from Kawal incident on August 27, 2013 and submit its reports in two months.
The Commission was also asked to look into administrative lapses, if any, in controlling the violence in Muzaffarnagar and surrounding districts which left over 60 people dead while thousands of others were displaced.
