Muzaffarnagar/Meerut: The death toll in the communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli has gone up to 31, with stray incidents of stabbing and firing taking place in remote villages, where tension still persists.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has been barred from entering Muzaffarnagar district, while a delegation of BJP leaders from Delhi led by Ravi Shankar Prasad was stopped on the Ghaziabad border from proceeding further. Ajit Singh's son Jayant Chaudhury today courted arrest when he was stopped from entering riot-affected areas.
"The death toll in the violence in Muzaffarnagar and other areas has climbed to 31," Principal Secretary Home R M Srivastava said.
District Magistrate Kashal Raj Sharma said one person was stabbed to death by some miscreants in Meerapur town of Muzaffarnagar district today. Another person was injured, when some miscreants attacked the two, Sharma said. At least six people have been arrested for the stabbing incident.
