Mumbai slum woman and daughter to sit for SSC exam together

Mumbai: A 41-year-old woman Jayashree Kanam and her 15-year-old daughter Shweta from an Andheri slum are due to take their SSC exam together this year.Very strong will power is required to appear for any competitive exam after a break from studies and Jayashree Kanam seems to be a determined woman.Jayashree lost her husband Jayant Kanam in the 26/7 deluge of 2005. Since then she had been working very hard to fulfill the basic needs of the family and provide education to her daughters.She cooks food in other people's houses and works at Anganwadi too.She wakes up at 5 am, first finishes her household chores and then steps out to cook in two homes after which she heads to the local anganwadi where she works as a helper.But her tiring day does not end there: she attends night classes at Cama Road Municipal School to prepare for the SSC exams.Jayashree has two daughters, her elder daughter Sheetal is pursuing First Year B. Com at Cosmos College in Andheri and her younger daughter Shweta is appearing for her SSC exams with her.Jayashree's sole motive to appear for SSC is to earn some extra bugs in order to provide higher education to her kids.Shweta and Sheetal both help their mom through the syllabus and resolve her doubts.Shweta even packs her mother's bag and keeps her books and pens in place.
