Mumbai rains: CM Shinde takes stock of heavy rainfall, over 3,500 people moved to safer places | Updates

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde went to the Disaster Control Room at BMC Head Quarter to take stock of situation as heavy rains lashed Mumbai.

When he reached, the police car behind in his convoy was hit hard by another vehicle from behind, due to which both the vehicles were damaged.

Although, there was no damage to CM or CM's vehicle.

According to sources, the vehicle that hit police car in CM's convoy was in high speed and couldn't control. 

The police is investigating the matter.

Mumbai's Powai Lake began overflowing on Tuesday evening amid heavy rains for the past couple of days, a civic official said.

The lake has a storage capacity of 545 crore litres and started overflowing at 6:15 pm, he added.

"However, water from the lake is not potable and is used for industrial purposes. It had overflown on June 12 last year. When the lake is full, the water area is around 2.23 square kilometres, while the catchment area is 6.61 square kilometres," he said.

Located some 27 kilometres from the BMC headquarters, Powai lake was built in 1890 at a cost of Rs 40 lakh.

A part of a road in Mumbra in Thane district caved in on Tuesday amid heavy rains, a civic official said. TMC RDMC chief Avinash Sawant said the incident took place in Samrat Ashok Nagar at around 6:30pm, adding there were no reports of injuries.

At least 7 youth drowned after they went to bath in a pond in Dahisar area of ​​Mumbai.

Out of 7, 5 of them rescued themselves while two are missing.

Amid heavy rains, a landslide occurred near Thane's Mumbra bypass road. No injuries were reported.

During his visit to the BMC headquarters a day after winning the floor test in the Assembly, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told reporters he had spoken to the collectors of Raigad, Ratnagiri and some other districts for which the India Meteorological Department had issued 'red' and 'orange' alerts predicting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

There has been waterlogging on the railway track between Kurla station to Tilaknagar station. Due to this, the local trains on Harbor route are moving at a slow speed. Water logging has occurred in Kurla railway quarter. The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain.

Four arterial subways in the north-west part of Mumbai have been closed for traffic due to heavy rains since the early hours of the day, officials said.

These subways, namely Golibar, Milan, Andheri and Malad connect the east and west stretches of the north-western suburbs, which are otherwise divided by Western Railway tracks.

In wake of the incessant rain in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will today visit the BMC's disaster control room at 4 pm.

A landslide incident was reported in Ghatkopar, Panchsheel Nagar in Mumbai amidst the heavy rains. Fire vehicles reaching on the spot.

Fire tenders have reached the spot, however, there were no reports of any injuries or casualties. 

A revised weather warning said moderate to intense spells of rain are very likely at isolated places in the districts of Sindhudurga, Raigad and Ratanagiri during the next 3-4 hours.

Due to heavy rains in the district, several rivers in the state have reached the warning level.

The Kundalika River has crossed the warning level and the water level of Amba, Savitri, Patalganga, Ulhas and Garhi rivers is slightly below the warning level.

Many low-lying areas in the Kalyan and Bhiwandi towns of Thane were flooded and several people from there were shifted to safer places

Flooding due to the heavy showers was reported in parts of two districts and several people were shifted to safer places, officials said.

Boulders fell from a hillock in Thane and a house collapsed in neighbouring Palghar following heavy rains in the two Maharashtra districts. There was no report of any casualty so far in the incidents.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde spoke to authorities after heavy and continous rains lashed Konkan. 

The chief minister has issued orders of immediate evacuation in Raigarh, Ratnagiri, Palghar, Thane, Kolhapur and other districts, as soon as a possible situation of floods emerges. 

CM Shinde is also keeping a watch on the situation in Mumbai.

Weather officials have warned of a high tide in Mumbai at 3:53 pm today. According to the officials, there will be a high tide of of 4.07 meters at evening around 3:53 pm while the low tide is likely to take place at 10.21 pm with a height of 1.75 meters.
