Mumbai local train services were disrupted briefly on Thursday morning due to some technical glitch, news agency ANI reported. Few trains were held up in the Kurla-Vadala section. Shivaji M Sutar, CPRO, Central Railway, Mumbai, said that the experts' team was deployed to detect and rectify the problem.
The UP line Kurla to CSMT traffic (trains towards CSMT) was restored at 6.40 am. The Down line CSMT to Kurla traffic was restored at 7:05 am. Operations are normal in the Kurla-Panvel section and Andheri/Goregaon-CSMT section.
Last month, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced that all women passengers will be allowed to travel in local trains in Mumbai and suburbs.
The servies were earlier restricted to those engaged in frontline duties and essential staff as categorised by the Maharashtra government. The services were suspended in March following the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Western Railway and the Central Railway are as of now collectively operating around 700 local train services every day on their suburban network.
The Mumbai suburban local trains are called the 'lifeline' of the metropolis. In the pre-COVID-19 era, 80 lakh people travelled daily.
