Mumbai gets India's first mono rail

Mumbai: Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan today flagged off Mumbai's first mono rail between Chembur and Wadala, which is expected to ease some burden from the city's suburban rail and bus services. Deputy Chief Minister



The fare will range between Rs 5 to Rs 19 depending on the distance.

The rates are similar to those of the Mumbai suburban  trains or BEST buses but monorail will be a luxury ride at a cheap rate.

There will be no monthly passes like the ones on   local trains but there will be a system of smart cards.
