Mumbai Congress President Kripashankar Singh has sought the intervention of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to resolve the issue concerning motormen's strike in the metropolis.

Singh said he has sent a fax message to Sonia in this regard after the stir entered the second day on Tuesday in Mumbai.

He also called upon the striking motormen to consider the plight of local train commuters and return back to work.

"Mumbai's local train is the lifeline of this mega city and its disruption has caused tremendous strain on the citizens and the business and industrial activity," he said.

Singh said he had spoken to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan lastnight and this morning, urging him to take up the matter with the Railway minister Mamta Banerjee and find a solution to the problem.

He also asked Shiv Sena MP Anand Adsul who is the leader of the striking motormen to ensure that the issues can be resolved through negotiations and any extreme step causing tremendous hardships and sufferings to Mumbai's working people should not be adopted. PTI
