Bhopal, Apr 19 : Leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Ajay Singh on Monday demanded resignation of the state Energy Minister Rajendra Shukla for allegedly taking power at his farm house near Rewa illegally that resulted in the death of a labourer.
"No legal power connection has been taken at the farm house situated at village Hariharpur in Rewa district by Shukla and the electricity was drawn illegally through open wires following which recently a labourer was electrocuted," Singh alleged in a statement.
"With his power theft exposed, the Minister has lost the moral right to remain in the Cabinet and therefore, he should resign from the ministry," the Leader of Opposition demanded.
In case he does not step down on his own, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should remove him from the Cabinet, Singh said.
He demanded that a criminal case against the minister, a high-level probe in the matter besides adequate compensation to the family of the deceased person.
Meanwhile, the Minister denied that power was illegally drawn at his farmhouse or a labourer died because of it.
Shukla told PTI that he has taken three legal connections at his farmhouse and Singh did not having proper information about it.
"We have already provided financial assistance to the kin of the victim and will take care of his family for the lifetime," Shukla said adding "such incidents should not be politicised," he added.
The deceased person was an old worker at the farmhouse identified as Arjun. He was electrocuted as after taking bath in a nearby river he had touched the electrical switch to start the water pump with wet hands, Shukla said. PTI
