Shalimar Bagh

Shalimar Bagh is located near Srinagar in J&K. Its also known by  other names like Shalimar Garden, Shalimar Bagh, Farah Baksh and Faiz Baksh etc.., The bagh was built by Jahangir in the love of his wife Nur Jahan in 1619. The bagh is considered as the high point of Mughal horticulture. Now it is known as public park.

This garden was built on a flat land and covered an area of 12.4 hectares (31 acres). The Garden has 3 terraces fitted with fountains and chinar (tree lined vistas).

The shahnahar is the main feeder channel to all the terraces. The garden is considered to be very beautiful during the season of autumn and spring due to the change in colour of leaves of the Chinar trees.
