Mumbai, Aug 4 : Mumbai traffic police carried out nightlong checks of all motorbikers in a bid to prevent stunt bikers from performing.
The stunt bikers normally perform between Bandra and Dahisar and between Marine Drive and Haji Ali, but on Saturday night it was a different sight.
Traffic police and city police set up barriers at 26 places to conduct checking of bikers, said Pratap Digvekar, DCP Traffic.
So far, bikers were prosecuted for rash driving under Motor Vehicles Act, but police have now started booking rash drivers under Sec 279 IPC too, a crime which proved can land one behind bars for six months, said Rameshwar Suple, senior police inspector, Marine Drive.
There are 26 locations in this metro city where bikers perform stunts, and often wagers are placed on them.
Police have now begun to seize motorbikes fitted with equipments to facilitate dangerous stunts.
