New Delhi: Ahead of assembly elections in Bihar, senior BJP leader C P Thakur today announced a series of events to mark 50 years of outstanding works of poet Ramdhari Singh 'Dinkar' from the state with the Prime Minister launching the celebrations on Friday.
The golden jubilee of Dinkar's works 'Sanskriti ke Chaar Adhyaye' and 'Parshuram ki Pratiksha' will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 22 at Vigyan Bhawan here, Thakur told reporters.
When asked if the events have been planned keeping the assembly elections in mind, he said the preparations in this regard were on for quite some time with participation of several like-minded people and had nothing to do with the state polls.
Several BJP leaders including party General Secretary in-charge of Bihar Bhupendra Yadav and MP Ashwini Chaubey were present at the press conference where Thakur, a former Union minister, also said that special events would be held at Begusarai, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and Patna -places associated with Dinkar.
Thakur also made a strong pitch for a Bharat Ratna for the late poet as also setting up of an institute for promoting Hindi language named after the poet.
Even after six decades of independence, Hindi has not been accorded status of a language of knowledge and science, he said, adding use of English language is still often preferred in Parliament, debates and in courts.
