In the wake of the ongoing tension in the neighbouring nation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the Modi government has constituted a committee to monitor the current situation on the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB). He added that the Central committee will maintain communication channels with their counterpart authorities in Bangladesh to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals, Hindus, and other minority communities living there. Giving further information, the home minister adde that the committee will be headed by the ADG, Border Security Force, Eastern Command.
"In the wake of the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, the Modi government has constituted a committee to monitor the current situation on the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB). The committee will maintain communication channels with their counterpart authorities in Bangladesh to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals, Hindus, and other minority communities living there. The committee will be headed by the ADG, Border Security Force, Eastern Command,” Amit Shah said in a post on X.
Earlier, the BSF asked the locals residing along the 4,096 km-long India-Bangladesh international border to not take unnecessary movement in the frontier areas especially during the night keeping the Bangladesh unrest in mind.
Union External affairs minister S Jaishankar while addressing the Parliament earlier said that the Central government is monitoring the situation in Bangladesh with regard to the protection of minorities.
Ealier in the day, PM Modi extended best wishes to Muhammad Yunus as he took oath as the head of an interim government in Bangladesh, hoping for early return of normalcy and ensuring safety of Hindus and other minority communities in that country.
In a post on X, Modi said, "My best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus on the assumption of his new responsibilities. We hope for an early return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities."
"India remains committed to working with Bangladesh to fulfil the shared aspirations of both our peoples for peace, security and development," he said.
The wishes from PM Modi came as Nobel laureate Yunus took oath as the head of an interim government in Bangladesh. Yunus, 84, was administered the oath of office by President Mohammed Shahabuddin at a ceremony at the presidential palace 'Bangabhaban'.
He was appointed as the head of the interim government on Tuesday after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India following widespread protests against her government over a controversial quota system in jobs.
